Black River Fifteen to twenty minutes from Georgetown is a community (not a neighborhood) built around the long and convoluted river eventually empting into the Intracoastal Waterway. Black River gets its name from the tannin stained waters winding through the many low country swamps, the source of this beautiful and pristine water. The center depth, approximately 30 feet, offers great recreational opportunities such as fresh water fishing, boating, skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, and observing wildlife. This body of water empties into Winyah Bay, a part of the Intracoastal Waterway.  Black Mingo Creek, with depths of 23 feet, is a tributary of Black River.
